Electrical Engineer III - High Power Illumination

About the role

Excelitas Technologies, a global technology leader in photonic solutions, is looking for an Electrical Engineer III in Mississauga, Ontario. The engineer designs, tests and updates electronic systems, components, equipment and subsystems for advanced light-delivery products used in high-power illumination applications. The role works in a cross-functional development team, covering the full product development life cycle from feasibility study and prototype to design, system integration, production release and manufacturing support.

The position follows a hybrid model with at least four days per week onsite at the Mississauga location, with one remote day per week possibly available depending on business needs.

Key responsibilities

• Complete product development activities on time, within budget and to design requirements, ensuring cost-effective, compliant and safe products.
• Design schematics and PCB layouts for semiconductor devices, LED/laser drivers, power distribution, sensors, wired and wireless communications and signal processing, using Altium Designer or another EDA tool.
• Perform simulations, characterization and process modeling, and conduct testing and troubleshooting of prototypes and Alpha/Beta products.
• Prepare design documentation, engineering reports, test plans and design release packages, and investigate electronic and electrical failures.
• Develop test fixtures and equipment, monitor processes and recommend improvements, and support other development teams, manufacturing and customer service.
• Represent the company at conferences and build relationships with internal teams and external vendors.

Required profile

• 4-5 years of experience in electronics and electrical design, schematics, simulation, PCB layout, modeling, prototyping and testing.
• Post-secondary degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with embedded processors, sensors, high-power laser/LED drivers, high-power distribution, thermal modeling, SMPS, communication buses and protocols.
• Knowledge of IEC standards for medical, laser and industrial devices (IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60825, IEC 62471, IEC 61326) and CE marking requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
