Director of Operations – Transportation

About the role

The Director of Operations – Transportation will lead the daily operational activities of our transportation division, ensuring efficient movement, storage, and delivery of goods. Reporting to senior management, this role combines strategic planning with hands‑on supervision of a team of more than 20 staff members.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate daily operations and monitor departmental performance.
• Develop and adjust transportation schedules and policies.
• Recruit, train and mentor staff.
• Manage budget, finances and financial reporting.
• Establish and implement policies for transportation and storage of goods.
• Set service rates, monitor revenue and ensure profitability.
• Maintain accurate records of cargo, mileage, fuel consumption and hours of service.
• Purchase general and specialized equipment, materials or services.
• Oversee scheduling, dispatching of vehicles and fleet maintenance.
• Implement safety, regulatory and compliance standards.

Required profile

• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Proven leadership with experience supervising 20+ employees.
• Ability to organize, prioritize and adapt to varied shifts, including on‑call and weekends.
• Flexibility and resilience in a fast‑paced environment.
• Analytical mindset with strategic planning capabilities.
