Director of Data

About the role

Passage is seeking a Director of Data to design and own the data foundation that powers the entire organization. In this foundational role you will create reliable data infrastructure, define core metrics, and turn operational data into actionable insights. You will work closely with leadership across engineering, growth, credit, finance, product, and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design the company’s data architecture, build pipelines, and develop analytical models.
• Define canonical metrics, ensure consistency, and create dashboards for leadership decision‑making.
• Unify data across growth, product, lending, finance, and operations into a consistent analytics layer.
• Establish standards for data quality, monitoring, and metric governance.
• Shape the long‑term data strategy and lay the foundation for a future data team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or a related technical field.
• 6–10 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering or advanced analytics.
• Proven ability to operate independently in a fast‑moving startup environment.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in SQL and large operational datasets.
• Proficiency in Python for data processing and analysis.
• Experience designing and maintaining data warehouses and analytical data models.
• Strong background building data pipelines and transformation workflows.
• Familiarity with Metabase or similar BI tools.
• Knowledge of GraphQL‑based systems or API‑driven data pipelines.

What we offer

• Salary range C$150,000 – C$200,000 per year.
• Equity participation.
