Digital Payload System Engineer – Montreal

About the role

The company offers full relocation support and a relocation bonus for candidates moving to Montreal. The role starts remotely while immigration is processed, then transitions to onsite work supporting digital payload systems for LEO/MEO missions.

Key responsibilities

• Gather and manage functional, performance, environmental and security requirements and map them to payload equipment.
• Design high‑level digital payload architecture, including optical ISLs, phased‑array antennas, feeder links, master reference oscillator and clock synchronization.
• Produce Interface Control Documents and implement high‑speed data‑bus interfaces such as SpaceWire, SpaceFibre, Ethernet and CAN.
• Perform performance simulations, Monte‑Carlo tolerance budgeting, and reliability modeling (FMECA, fault tree, FDIR).
• Provide system‑level specifications to hardware designers, review schematics, layouts and thermal/mechanical constraints.
• Lead cross‑functional coordination with electrical, power, structures, thermal, software, ground‑segment and mission‑operations teams.
• Develop and execute the Payload Verification Master Plan, including test‑automation and results certification.
• Mentor junior engineers, act as technical liaison with customers and vendors, and drive continuous improvement.
• Support on‑orbit operations, health monitoring, anomaly investigations and performance reporting.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace or Physics with 8+ years of digital regenerative payload system design experience.
• Deep knowledge of digital communications, SDR, DSP, DVB RCS/SX protocols, modulation schemes, MPLS, 2G/5G NTN.
• Strong technical‑writing and presentation skills; comfortable interfacing with customers and senior leadership.
• Solid understanding of aerospace system‑engineering fundamentals and hands‑on integration experience.
• Proficiency with Confluence and JIRA, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and oral English; French is an asset.
