Digital-Analog Electrical Engineer
q-block-computing · Ottawa
Job description
About the role
The Digital‑Analog Electrical Engineer will develop highly scalable, real‑time mixed‑signal control electronics for Q‑Block’s quantum platforms. The role is hands‑on, delivering boards that move from concept through qualification to deployment in mission‑critical environments.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement and validate hybrid digital‑analog PCBs for quantum sensing, communication and computation hardware.
- Translate board‑level requirements into architecture, I/O, signal‑integrity, power, thermal and firmware interface specifications.
- Develop precision analog front‑ends, high‑speed DAC/ADC subsystems, low‑noise references and conditioning circuits.
- Architect deterministic digital control paths using MCUs and FPGAs, ensuring low‑latency coexistence with sensitive analog blocks.
- Design clock distribution, synchronization and timing reference circuitry for multi‑channel, multi‑board operation.
- Perform SPICE, signal‑integrity, noise and stability analysis; manage BOM, part qualification and DFM decisions.
- Lead schematic capture, PCB layout, review processes and produce manufacturing documentation.
- Execute board bring‑up, characterization and validation using oscilloscopes, network/spectrum analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators and custom test fixtures.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience designing digital, analog and mixed‑signal circuits, with ownership of boards from concept to validated hardware.
- Strong laboratory skills with oscilloscopes, network and spectrum analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators and standard bench instrumentation.
- Proficiency in SPICE simulation and mixed‑signal design analysis techniques.
Required skills
- SPICE simulation and signal‑integrity analysis.
- PCB schematic capture and layout (including controlled‑impedance routing, grounding and EMI/EMC considerations).
- Laboratory instrumentation: oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators.
- Design of low‑noise analog front‑ends, high‑speed DAC/ADC subsystems.
- MCU and FPGA based digital control, deterministic low‑latency architectures.
What we offer
- Extended health care (including dental and vision).
- Life insurance.
