Design Engineer

About the role

Badger is seeking a Design Engineer to lead the development of non‑destructive excavation equipment. The role combines concept creation, detailed CAD modelling, finite‑element analysis and preparation of manufacturing documentation, while collaborating closely with production teams to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute design concepts for excavation equipment, producing 3‑D CAD models and detailed drawings.
• Perform FEA simulations to validate structural integrity and optimise designs.
• Generate manufacturing drawings, specification sheets and bill of materials.
• Work with manufacturing, quality and safety teams to ensure designs meet industry standards and Badger’s safety policies.
• Research new product opportunities, build prototypes and support product testing.
• Maintain design data in a PDM system and follow standardized drafting practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) registration with APEGA.
• Minimum 5 years of design engineering experience, preferably in industrial or heavy‑equipment sectors.
• Ability to work on‑site, lift up to 20 lb, and travel occasionally for meetings or training.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (or equivalent 3‑D CAD) and familiarity with standardized drafting practices.
• Experience with PDM CAD server (beneficial but not required).
• Finite‑element analysis (FEA) tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
