Data Scientist

About the role

Own the Podium is seeking a Data Scientist to turn sport‑related data into actionable insights that support Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic performance. Reporting to the Manager, Data Analytics, you will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop models, visualisations and reporting tools that drive evidence‑based decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Support identification and analysis of key performance data needs and transform raw data into actionable insights using business systems.
• Design, implement, and apply statistical models for complex high‑performance sport initiatives.
• Clean, integrate, and manage complex datasets to ensure reliable analysis.
• Develop metrics, analyse trends, and create data visualisations and reporting products for technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Conduct sport‑specific analysis and prepare data‑driven insights for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with colleagues on cross‑functional projects, analytics initiatives and continuous improvement of reporting processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional data‑science experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of data‑analytics principles, evaluation methodologies, project management and sport‑science practices.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Data‑visualisation tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
• Microsoft 365 suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Statistical techniques including linear models, hypothesis testing and sampling.
• Data cleaning, integration and management of large datasets.
