Crossing Guard (Part-Time, Entry-Level)

About the role

The City of Woodstock is hiring one Crossing Guard in Woodstock, Ontario. The position reports to the Crossing Guard Supervisor, is permanent and part-time, unionized, and falls under the Clerks classification. It is an entry-level role with a starting date as soon as possible.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure children's safety at specified street crossings by arriving at the crossing at the specified times and staying there for the duration of the shift.
• Wear a reflective safety vest and use a hand-held Stop Sign, holding it up while reaching out the opposite arm for a few minutes while children cross.
• Escort children across the street, making sure all vehicles stop according to proper procedure.
• Report the description of the vehicle and driver, time and place of the incident, and the licence plate of any vehicle refusing to stop to the Supervisor.
• Report consistently disobedient children and any incidents or conditions that pose a safety hazard to school children or the crossing guard to the Supervisor.
• Attend all scheduled crossing guard workshops.

Required profile

• Experience working with children.
• Experience interacting with the public in a positive and professional manner.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Access to a vehicle to commute to the assigned crossing location.
• Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, employment and proof of qualifications.

Working conditions

• Work in all weather conditions; crossing locations are assigned by the City based on operational needs and may be reassigned.
• Shift times are listed on the City's website.
