Course Lecturer – Understanding Canada (CANS 200)

About the role

The McGill Institute for the Study of Canada seeks a Course Lecturer to teach CANS 200 — Understanding Canada during the Fall 2026 term. The position involves delivering two weekly lectures, guiding student discussions, and assessing learning outcomes for a 3‑credit course.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver 75‑minute lectures on Mondays and Wednesdays (11:35 am‑12:55 pm) from August 31 to December 4, 2026.
  • Develop and share course materials, including outlines, reading lists, and evaluation criteria.
  • Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and participation.
  • Maintain office hours and provide academic support to enrolled students.

Required profile

  • Master’s degree in anthropology, history, geography, sociology, or a related discipline (PhD preferred).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in Canadian studies, covering topics such as colonialism, multiculturalism, identity, and public policy.
  • Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work on the Montreal campus.

Required skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of Canada’s anthropology, history, geography, and sociology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience designing and delivering university‑level curricula.
