Country Director – Canada

About the role

Thiess is seeking a commercially driven Country Director for Canada to lead and expand its mining services across the region. Based in either Sudbury or Toronto, the role will shape the company’s growth strategy, win new contracts, and eventually assume full operational responsibility as the project portfolio expands.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute Thiess’s Canada strategy with a focus on revenue growth and client value.
• Provide executive leadership across multiple mining projects and business initiatives.
• Collaborate with New Work and senior leadership to identify and pursue strategic opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry stakeholders, and key partners.
• Ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective operational performance aligned with contractual and financial targets.
• Oversee operational planning, resource allocation, and performance management.
• Champion a proactive safety culture through visible leadership.

Required profile

• Executive leadership experience in mining or heavy‑industrial operations.
• Deep understanding of open‑pit and underground mining, project delivery, and operational planning.
• Proven track record leading geographically dispersed teams and complex operations.
• Strong commercial acumen with financial, contractual, and business‑development expertise.
• Ability to influence senior client and executive stakeholders.
