Construction Finance Controller

About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the financial operations of their construction business. This senior finance professional will ensure accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and strategic support across multiple active construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Manage full‑cycle accounting and month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes.
• Prepare accurate financial statements and management reporting packages.
• Monitor project/job costing, work‑in‑progress (WIP) reporting, and construction‑specific financial metrics.
• Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
• Handle cash‑flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning activities.
• Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support leadership with financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic decision‑making.
• Supervise and mentor accounting/finance team members and drive process improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5‑10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction or project‑based environments.
• CPA designation or equivalent experience preferred.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, and project accounting principles.
• Experience with ERP systems such as Sage, Jonas, or Viewpoint.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling abilities.
• Proficiency in month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes.
