Communications Officer – Student Engagement (Temporary, 35 hrs/week)

About the role

The Communications Officer – Student Engagement will focus on enhancing student voice and wellbeing through strategic communication across multiple channels. Reporting to the General Manager of Communications & Engagement, the role supports the Board’s goals of student achievement and community connection.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary contact for student engagement, ensuring accurate, timely information on web, social media, SchoolMessenger and other platforms.
• Produce video storytelling content from pre‑production through post‑production, including live streaming of Board meetings and public events.
• Develop and implement internal and external communication plans that highlight student achievements and promote engagement.
• Provide communications advice, social‑media expertise, and proofreading/editing support to schools and Board departments.
• Research, interview, and write articles, capture photos/video, and manage media relations focused on student stories.

Required profile

• University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in media relations, social‑media campaigns, and content creation.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities through an equity and inclusion lens.
• Strong writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills, including discretion and diplomacy.
• Proficient with major software, online applications and video‑editing tools.
• Valid G driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
