About the role
The Communications Officer supports the McGill Office of Sustainability (MOOS) in promoting the university’s climate and sustainability initiatives. Working under the Associate Director, the role creates and disseminates content that positions McGill as a sustainability leader.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement communication plans aligned with MOOS priorities.
- Write regular articles for the McGill Reporter and the “What’s New” newsletter.
- Produce short videos and visual assets to showcase sustainability projects and the Sustainability Projects Fund.
- Manage day‑to‑day operations of MOOS’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), website, and newsletter.
- Recruit, train, and supervise communication interns, overseeing their performance.
- Advise the Associate Director on communication implications of new sustainability projects.
- Coordinate communication efforts with student societies and student‑led sustainability groups.
- Liaise with central and faculty communications units and the Media Relations Office to amplify sustainability content.
- Plan and execute large‑scale visibility campaigns for the Sustainability Projects Fund.
- Use data and analytics to assess the impact of communication tools and refine strategies.
- Research trends and best practices in sustainability communications for higher education.
- Prepare or review presentations, guides, speaking notes, and other documents.
- Represent MOOS at internal and external meetings and organize events that promote sustainability.
Required profile
- Ability to work under the supervision of the Associate Director of MOOS.
- Experience recruiting, training, and managing interns or junior staff.
- Strong collaboration skills with student groups, faculty units, and media relations.
Required skills
- Video production.
- Social media management (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn).
- Content writing for newsletters and web platforms.
- Data analytics for measuring communication effectiveness.
- Website management.
