Communications Manager

About the role

The Communications Manager leads the planning, development, and execution of internal and external communications strategies for BC Doctors of Optometry (BCDO) and its EyeSafe program. This position strengthens member engagement, raises public awareness, and ensures a consistent, compelling brand presence across all channels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the annual communications strategy with the CEO and Communications Committee.
• Produce all membership communications, including the bi‑weekly newsletter, BCDO Eyeliner, and BCDO Updates.
• Manage the BCDO website, member portal, and social‑media accounts.
• Oversee the creation and distribution of the BCDO Annual Report.
• Drive public‑education campaigns, coordinate with external consultants, and report on results.
• Plan and execute communications and marketing for events such as conferences, CE sessions, and member‑engagement initiatives.
• Design, write, edit, and produce newsletters, website content, social posts, and print/digital materials while maintaining tone and inclusivity.
• Supervise the Communications Coordinator and stay current on industry trends.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a similar role.
• Strong collaborative mindset and ability to contribute across diverse projects.
