Communication Assistant – Sustainability Liaison

About the role

The Student Housing & Hospitality Services unit at McGill University is seeking a part‑time Communication Assistant to support sustainability initiatives across campus. You will act as a bridge between environmental student groups, residence communities, food services, and university administration.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison for sustainability matters, representing SHHS in student and staff engagements.
• Coordinate and assist with waste‑management, fair‑trade, local‑food, and other sustainability events.
• Provide on‑site guidance at high‑traffic waste bins, helping users select the correct recycling or compost option.
• Deliver presentations and workshops to educate students, faculty, and staff on zero‑waste and recycling practices.
• Attend training sessions and campus events, both in‑person and virtual, to stay current on sustainability policies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Fluency in both French and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, be resourceful, and approach crowds confidently.
• Team‑oriented mindset with a systematic approach to task completion and reporting.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract from August 31 2026 to April 9 2027.
• Flexible schedule of 3 hours per week, with additional hours during events.
• Hourly wage of $16.70 CAD.
