Civil Design Engineer

About the role

You will join Binnie’s Infrastructure Victoria Division to develop civil engineering designs for municipal water, storm, sanitary, streets and transportation projects. The position offers the chance to work collaboratively with project managers, designers and engineers on a variety of capital projects while gaining exposure to both design and on‑site inspection.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare civil engineering design work from conceptual studies through detailed construction drawings.
• Prepare and review design calculations in line with current standards.
• Act as the project Engineer of Record, signing and sealing drawings, reports, calculations and technical documentation.
• Maintain design files with all necessary calculations and documentation.
• Produce design reports, letters and technical memoranda.
• Perform on‑site inspection duties.
• Assist Project Managers with fee proposal preparation.
• Carry out quality‑control procedures and monitor design standards on completed work.
• Direct staff involved in the design process.

Required profile

• 4–6+ years of experience in municipal engineering design.
• Experience with municipal infrastructure, roads or utilities projects (preferred).
• Land‑development experience (a bonus).
• Previous experience acting as an Engineer of Record (preferred).
• Construction experience (preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Registration as a P.Eng with EGBC.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and personal vehicle (preferred).
• Strong design, communication and time‑management abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail.
