Civil Construction Estimator

About the role

Knappett Industries is seeking a Civil Construction Estimator for its head office in Nanaimo, BC. The role focuses on preparing accurate cost estimates and competitive tenders for civil infrastructure projects, supporting successful construction outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for earth works, site works, road construction, and underground utilities.
• Review drawings, specifications, and site conditions to develop quantity take‑offs and pricing strategies.
• Utilize estimating software such as MS Excel and HeavyBid to produce detailed estimates and proposals.
• Identify and pursue opportunities in both public and private sectors.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and other Estimators to review tenders and refine estimates.
• Participate in pre‑construction planning, bid reviews, and post‑award project kick‑offs.

Required profile

• 3+ years of cumulative applicable work experience in civil construction.
• Great attention to detail and strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Excel.
• Experience using HeavyBid estimating software.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
• Familiarity with MS Project.
