Chief Officer / Chief Mate - 500T

About the role

Bridgemans Services Group is seeking an experienced Chief Officer/Chief Mate for a 500‑ton passenger transfer vessel operating out of Howe Sound, Squamish, BC. The role focuses on safe personnel transfer, emergency response, and overall vessel safety while adhering to company and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Master in planning safe, timely passages and maintaining crew morale.
• Support the Master in all operational matters to ensure efficiency and safety.
• Oversee vessel maintenance, including engineering, safety, structure, and rigging.
• Operate the vessel in compliance with Transport Canada and CSA regulations.
• Minimize fuel and supply waste while maintaining operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with client‑specific project rules.
• Maintain required inventories of fuel and ship spares.
• Conduct pre‑departure checks and regular inspections.
• Provide daily reports on fuel, labour, and other operational metrics.
• Complete handover logs, documents, and reports for shift transitions.
• Verify crew levels meet Safe Manning requirements.
• Mentor crew members, supporting skill development and training.
• Foster a positive team environment through collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Chief Mate 500T Certificate of Competency (COC) issued by Transport Canada or a reciprocal authority.
• Several years of relevant maritime experience preferred.
• MED training, including Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats.
• MED Advanced Fire Fighting certification.
• MED Basic Safety Training.
