CFA Foundations Drill Rig Operator

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated CFA Foundations Drill Rig Operator to join Hall Shoring & Foundations in Edmonton. The successful candidate will operate foundation drilling equipment safely and efficiently, contributing to the construction of high‑quality piles on a variety of ground conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Operate CFA, rotary and down‑the‑hole rigs to construct piles according to engineered drawings and specifications.
• Perform daily inspections, lubrication and routine maintenance; report any mechanical issues to the foreman.
• Set up and position rigs safely following lift plans and layout drawings.
• Monitor drilling parameters and adjust speed, pressure and rotation to achieve required pile quality.
• Coordinate with pump operators and labourers during concrete or grout placement and ensure reinforcement is correctly installed.
• Maintain rig, work pad and lay‑down area housekeeping and record production data, pile depths and soil conditions.
• Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox talks and site safety briefings, stopping work when unsafe conditions arise.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating foundation drilling rigs in a construction or field environment.
• Strong understanding of equipment limitations, ground conditions and safety procedures.
• Ability to work effectively with foremen, pump operators and labour crews.
• Attention to detail, professionalism and commitment to quality.

Required skills

• Operation of CFA, rotary and down‑the‑hole drilling equipment.
• Selection of appropriate tooling for varying ground conditions.
• Knowledge of auger, Kelly bar, casing and spin‑lock anchor systems.
• Understanding of pile installation sequence and concrete/grout pumping coordination.
• Safe rigging, hoisting and lifting procedures.
• Reading and interpreting pile layouts, drilling logs and engineered drawings.
• Troubleshooting minor hydraulic, electrical and mechanical issues.
• Lockout/tagout and energy isolation procedures.
