Casual Education Assistant (On-Call)

About the role

The School District No. 42 is seeking qualified candidates to work as Casual Education Assistants on an on‑call basis. You will support classroom teachers in creating inclusive learning environments for students with special needs across the district’s schools.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct assistance to teachers and students during assigned shifts (approximately 90 shifts per school year).
• Implement behaviour‑management, conflict‑resolution and restraining techniques as directed.
• Assist in modifying curriculum and applying a variety of learning strategies to meet individual student needs.
• Support hearing‑impaired students with basic sign language when required.
• Collaborate with school staff, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to a respectful, safe classroom atmosphere.

Required profile

• Successful completion of Grade 12 plus a Special Education Teaching Assistant program or equivalent.
• Experience working with individuals who have special needs.
• Knowledge of behaviour management, conflict resolution, and restraining techniques.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with diverse school personnel, students, and parents.
• Flexibility, patience, stamina, emotional stability and physical capability to perform job duties.
• Valid BC driver’s licence.
