Canola Breeding Summer Associate

About the role

The Canola Breeding Summer Associate will join BASF Agricultural Solutions in Headingley, MB for a 4‑8 month summer assignment. Working directly on local and global breeding programs, the associate will support the development of high‑performing canola hybrids while gaining hands‑on experience in field research.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with field trials from land preparation and seeding through harvest, including plot maintenance and pest control.
• Support variety development and registration activities such as pollination management and parental line development.
• Conduct daily crop health diagnostics, monitor research plots, and collect data for analysis.
• Supervise casual employees as needed during peak field activities.
• Collaborate with team members in both independent and group settings to achieve trial objectives.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an agricultural, plant science, or related degree program.
• Strong interest in crop breeding, field research, and sustainable agriculture.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and follow safety protocols.
• Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
