Buyer – Supply Chain

About the role

CB&I Storage Solutions is looking for a Buyer in Sturgeon County, Alberta. The Buyer identifies sources of commodities and services, evaluates bids, awards contracts and purchase orders, maintains vendor contacts and keeps track of product descriptions and prices. The role reports to the Manager, Supply Chain Management and works closely with Engineering, Operations and Estimating.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare contract documents and bidder lists, seek out and qualify new bidders, and distribute requests for quotation
• Purchase materials and services at or below estimate, perform bid evaluations and issue purchase orders for commodities and finished goods
• Negotiate small to medium value purchase orders for regional and international purchases and assist with award and conforming processes
• Solve simple claims or disputes with vendors and solicit budgetary pricing for equipment, material or labour to support estimating and proposals
• May act as lead buyer for a project and recommend improvements to tools, systems and software
• Follow HSE requirements and promote the company's values, including diversity and inclusion

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Supply Chain, Business, Technical/Engineering, Construction Management or a related field (required)
• 1-5 years of relevant experience; recent college graduates with relevant internships will be considered
• EPC industry experience preferred
• General understanding of the full project and procurement lifecycle, from bidding to close-out
• Familiarity with supplier onboarding procedures and supply chain forms such as Change Management, Commercial Bid Analysis, Project Summary Page, Credit Application

Required skills

• JDE-E1 (especially Process MRP Demands and Order Entry), Agile, TAP and electronic document filing and signature software are a strong advantage
• Microsoft Excel and Access at beginner to intermediate level
• Negotiation skills, analytical thinking and strong communication skills
