Shuttle Bus Support Staff & Driver

About the role

Hope Mission, a Christian non-profit social care agency serving vulnerable people in Alberta since 1929, is hiring a full-time (temporary) Shuttle Bus Support Staff & Driver for November 1 to March 31. The role reports to the Coordinator, Mobile Outreach Teams, works in Green Manor on a 12-hour rotating 4-on/4-off schedule, daytime or nighttime, and pays $23.50 per hour. The shuttle bus runs 24/7 on set routes, transporting community members between resources and to support services for people who are stranded.

Key responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed, street-level support by helping vulnerable people get to shelters and other community resources.
• Drive the shuttle bus within Edmonton to help people stranded at closed or over-capacity facilities.
• Keep the bus washed, cleaned, fueled, stocked, maintained and ready for use, and report maintenance issues to the coordinator.
• Maintain records of service users and complete incident reports for critical incidents.
• Give information and referrals to community agencies and support groups, and liaise with them so vulnerable people can access transport, shelter and other services.
• Promote awareness of Hope Mission's programs and outreach through mobile services.

Required profile

• Full Class 4 Alberta driver's licence with a clean abstract.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis; must pass a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector search.
• Able to lift at least 50 lbs and work with repurposed ambulance vehicles.
• Commitment to Hope Mission's mission and values, and willingness to sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
• Reference letter from a ministry or church is an asset.

Required skills

• First aid and non-violent crisis intervention training is an asset (provided if needed).
• Good day and night vision, hearing and ability to adapt to rapid temperature changes.
• Excellent communication, time management and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
