Buyer – Procurement Specialist

About the role

As a Buyer at Davie, Canada’s largest shipyard, you will ensure compliance with procurement procedures while securing the optimal mix of quality, cost and delivery for the materials and services needed by the shipyard.

Key responsibilities

• Gather technical information on required parts, equipment or services to obtain competitive pricing and lead times.
• Identify and select potential suppliers, review bids for compliance, and obtain approvals before issuing purchase orders.
• Negotiate terms, request bids, and prepare purchase orders in line with agreed conditions.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, estimating, planning and other departments to analyse technical proposals.
• Work with receiving personnel to resolve non‑conformities and coordinate with Accounting on commercial issues.
• Provide pricing information to the Estimating Department for project cost evaluations.
• Periodically negotiate framework agreements for services and material purchases.
• Act as a resource for substitute products when original items are unavailable and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• College diploma or relevant training in procurement.
• 2–5 years of experience as a buyer.
• Proficiency with procurement software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong negotiating skills.
• Fluency in both French and English (written and spoken); English fluency is mandatory for supplier interactions.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and ability to manage priorities.
• Successful completion of the security screening process and required security clearance (minimum five years residency in Canada with no interruption of six consecutive months).
