About the role
The Buyer is responsible for acquiring technical and non‑technical inventory, goods, and services for the British Columbia Rapid Transit Company. This role ensures timely delivery, cost‑effective shipping, and compliance with company procurement policies.
Key responsibilities
- Replenish inventory based on reorder reports, forced order requisitions, and zero‑quantity alerts.
- Analyze on‑hand stock, outstanding orders, usage trends, and min/max parameters to minimize stock‑out and over‑stock risks.
- Prepare and manage RFX processes, review supplier responses, and negotiate contracts that reduce supply risk.
- Place purchase orders using procurement systems, confirm order receipt, and monitor delivery performance.
- Liaise with internal requestors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure specifications are met.
- Research and qualify alternate suppliers for discontinued or hard‑to‑source parts.
Required profile
- Experience in procurement or purchasing within a technical environment.
- Strong analytical skills for inventory management and cost analysis.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Knowledge of procurement policies, trade laws, and contract management.
