Business Development Advisor – University of Lethbridge

About the role

This position is a unique business development role that bridges academia and industry. You will act as a matchmaker, identifying common interests between researchers at the University of Lethbridge and potential corporate or not‑for‑profit partners. The role is a one‑year full‑time temporary contract focused on expanding Mitacs program participation in Southern Alberta.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Mitacs Business Development, Research, and Programs teams to deliver high‑quality programming.
• Engage with University of Lethbridge stakeholders to understand researcher and student needs and match them with industry opportunities.
• Develop and maintain a network of partners across industry and academia, including other post‑secondary institutions in Southern Alberta.
• Promote Mitacs programs to companies, not‑for‑profits, and researchers, and support negotiations for collaborative agreements.
• Work with university offices (Research and Innovation Services, Graduate Studies, Career Bridge, International Office) to clarify roles and increase program participation.

Required profile

• Recent Master’s or PhD (within 1‑2 years), preferably from the University of Lethbridge, or equivalent education and research experience.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, high‑energy self‑starter attitude, and strong team spirit.
• Creative thinking, ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑performance culture, and desire to pursue a career outside academia.
• Fluent written and spoken English for interaction with stakeholders across Canada.
