Bus Operator – Public Transit

About the role

The City of Belleville is seeking a dedicated Bus Operator to provide safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services to the public. Working from the Transit Terminal, you will spend most of your shift driving a bus on scheduled routes while ensuring a pleasant experience for passengers.

Key responsibilities

• Operate buses on both scheduled and unscheduled routes, adhering to timetables.
• Inspect and monitor vehicle conditions before, during, and after each shift.
• Prepare accident, incident, and vehicle condition reports as required.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment inside the bus.
• Perform minor maintenance on vehicles, shelters, and bus stops when needed.
• Assist passengers with inquiries, provide route guidance, and address concerns professionally.

Required profile

• Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Ontario ‘CZ’ endorsed driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and ability to work with a diverse passenger base.
• Capacity to work alone for extended periods while maintaining professionalism.
• Physical ability to sit for long periods and perform limited lifting.
• Clear criminal record and successful vulnerable sector check.

Required skills

• CZ driver’s licence (Ontario).
• Knowledge of safety and emergency response procedures.
