Bilingual Senior Underwriter

About the role

Manulife is hiring a Bilingual Senior Underwriter for a full-time remote position in Quebec. The role involves reviewing complex insurance files and making high-value underwriting decisions that help individuals and families secure their financial futures. The position is an existing vacancy.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessment and classification according to Manulife's philosophy and standards
• Collaborate with sales and head office colleagues to deliver high-quality, competitive decisions for customers
• Maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners and ensure every interaction reflects a strong customer experience
• Comply with consumer laws and regulations on risk classification, confidentiality and disclosure
• Identify and propose solutions to problems and procedures related to the underwriter's work

Required profile

• 3 years of underwriting experience
• $1,000,000+ life signing authority
• Sales and relationship-focused mindset with a drive to earn and continue to earn business
• Working towards, or completion of, FALU, FLMI and ACS designations
• Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset; for candidates in Quebec, proficiency in both languages is required to serve clients from other provinces
• Preferred: 100,000+ CI authority, university or college degree in a related discipline, interest in external presentations, and experience in co-signing, referral reviews or mentoring

Required skills

• Medical terminology: physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, imaging, diagnostic testing and treatments
• Understanding of how non-medical risks affect mortality, including hazardous occupations, sports, avocations and lifestyle
• Experience with financial reports and training in anti-money laundering practices
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Salary range of $70,500 to $117,500 CAD, depending on location and qualifications
