Backend Software Engineer – Marketplace Services

About the role

eBay is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain core services that power the seller and marketplace experience for millions of users worldwide. You will work with a cross‑functional team of engineers, product managers, and architects to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance backend services, APIs, and applications that support core marketplace functionality.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Collaborate with teammates on code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work with databases, caching layers, and messaging systems to ensure high performance and reliability.

Required profile

• BS/BS in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 2+ years of professional software development experience (or equivalent advanced degree with 1+ year).
• Strong computer‑science fundamentals and a passion for learning.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Design and implementation of APIs.
• Experience with databases (SQL/NoSQL).
• Knowledge of caching technologies.
• Familiarity with messaging systems.
