Backend Developer

About the role

Nabu Casa is seeking a full‑time Backend Developer to join its Cloud & Infrastructure team. You will work on Home Assistant Cloud services, maintaining existing features and building new, privacy‑focused capabilities for a global open‑source community.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and scale high‑performance backend applications.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborative development processes.
• Work cross‑functionally to define, design, and ship new cloud features.
• Maintain and improve performance, quality, and responsiveness of cloud services.
• Apply security and data‑protection best practices.
• Stay current with industry trends and share knowledge within the team.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of professional backend development experience.
• At least two years of experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Basic system‑administration knowledge.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub.
• Based in Canada and able to work across UTC‑5 to UTC‑8 time zones.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
