Automation Engineer – Toronto

About the role

LAPORTE is seeking an Automation Engineer to join its Toronto team. You will be responsible for designing, programming, and commissioning automated systems for clients in the pharmaceutical, food, and industrial biotech sectors. The role combines technical engineering work with project management to ensure successful delivery of automation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Define customer needs and translate them into automated system specifications.
• Design automated systems, select equipment, and create control panel layouts.
• Program PLCs and develop user interfaces.
• Participate in system testing, commissioning, and on‑site validation.
• Manage factory automation projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and change control.
• Prepare technical specifications, plans, and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams and coordinate with equipment suppliers.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Automated Production Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• 3–5 years of experience in industrial automation.
• Knowledge of Allen Bradley, Rockwell, and Siemens automation products.
• Experience in the food and/or pharmaceutical industry is an asset.
