Attorney – Remote Legal Expert (Contract)

About the role

Mercor is seeking experienced attorneys to support the development of AI systems that understand legal reasoning. This remote, contract position involves reviewing and annotating U.S. court opinions and creating legal reasoning problems.

Key responsibilities

• Review and annotate U.S. court opinions and legal filings sourced from CourtListener.
• Apply legal judgment to evaluate case outcomes, reasoning quality, and document classification.
• Author legal reasoning problems grounded in real court opinions, orders, and judicial records.
• Support AI training efforts by providing consistent, accurate structured tasks.
• Maintain high accuracy and consistency across all annotation work.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience practicing law in a law firm, in‑house department, government agency, or legal research organization.
• J.D., LL.M., or equivalent legal degree from a top U.S. university.
• Experience with U.S. federal or state court systems.
• Strong reading comprehension of legal texts.
• Availability to commit 15 hours per week.
