Assistant Professor of Finance and Business Economics (Teaching Track)

About the role

The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University is seeking a full-time, tenure-track teaching appointment as Assistant Professor in the Finance and Business Economics area. The position starts on July 1, 2027, with teaching at the Hamilton and Burlington campuses in Ontario. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate finance courses, contribute to experiential learning through the school's trading floor, and help develop curriculum and academic service.

Key responsibilities

• Teach finance courses at undergraduate and master's level, including large sections of Introduction to Finance
• Deliver trading and investments courses for the undergraduate, MBA and Master of Finance programs
• Take part in activities involving the school's trading floor and emphasize experiential learning
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of finance and business economics developments
• Contribute to ongoing curriculum development
• Serve on internal committees and support school initiatives and external communities
• Normal teaching load is eight sections per year; pedagogical research is encouraged

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Finance or Financial Economics by the start date
• Evidence of teaching excellence and a strong commitment to innovative teaching
• Preferred: professional designations such as CFA, experience teaching large classes, proficiency with financial data platforms such as Bloomberg and Refinitiv Workspace, and professional trading experience
• Canadian citizens and permanent residents receive priority; all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply
