About the role
The City of Nanaimo is looking for an Assistant Manager, Procurement to lead the day‑to‑day operations of its Procurement Unit. Reporting to the Manager of Supply Chain Management, you will ensure that purchasing activities align with trade agreements, municipal policies and standard operating procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee daily procurement activities and maintain compliance with trade agreements and city policies.
- Provide advice and guidance on complex, unusual, and major purchases.
- Establish and sustain a standard of procurement excellence across the unit.
- Exercise independent judgment on routine matters; consult the manager for major policy issues.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or a related discipline.
- Minimum three years of procurement experience, including municipal government and supervisory roles.
- Eligibility for membership in a recognized supply‑chain professional association.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence.

- Permanent full‑time exempt position (35 hours per week).
- Salary range $116,830.80 – $124,288.09 CAD per year.
