About the role

Under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, the Assistant Deputy Chief provides leadership to the CYFS Training Division and oversees the Town’s comprehensive emergency management program. This senior managerial position is responsible for developing, implementing, managing and maintaining emergency preparedness initiatives for the community.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the CYFS Training Division and ensure effective delivery of training programs.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the town’s emergency management program.
  • Directly evaluate, mentor and manage staff across fire protection and emergency services.
  • Coordinate incident management and command functions during emergencies.
  • Design, deliver and assess organization‑wide training aligned with adult‑education principles.
  • Support collective bargaining processes and administer collective agreements.
  • Manage projects using MS Office tools and the Firehouse records management system.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and municipal policies.

Required profile

  • Post‑secondary education in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Progressive fire‑suppression experience to a leadership level.
  • Demonstrated technical and leadership abilities with a passion for employee development.
  • Completion of the Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) designation within one year of hire.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required.
  • Class G driver’s licence in good standing.
  • Successful Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check.
