Assistant Controller – Technical Accounting & Reporting

About the role
Join a global commodities organization as an Assistant Controller in Mississauga. Reporting to the Global Corporate Controller, you will work on complex IFRS reporting, consolidated financial statements, MD&A preparation, audit coordination, and technical accounting projects for a multi‑entity international business.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical accounting analysis and draft IFRS position papers on provisions, impairment, leases, foreign exchange, and disclosures.
- Maintain the technical accounting issues register and ensure timely resolution before reporting sign‑off.
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, roll‑forward schedules, consolidation schedules, intercompany eliminations, FX translation entries, and adjustments for accuracy and audit readiness.
- Assist in preparing consolidated financial statements, reporting packages, and disclosure schedules.
- Prepare and maintain IFRS 16 and IFRS 9 schedules and related disclosures.
- Draft quarterly MD&A, KPI analysis, and financial commentary.
- Support technical tax reviews related to GST/HST/PST filings, transfer pricing, and global tax initiatives.
- Act as a primary contact for external auditors and coordinate audits across multiple entities.
- Collaborate with controllers, FP&A, tax teams, and senior finance leadership on projects and process improvements.
Required profile
- CPA designation (or equivalent) required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Previous Big 4 experience or senior technical reporting role in a multi‑entity organization.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, including IFRS 9, IFRS 16, consolidations, revenue recognition, and impairment accounting.
- Experience preparing or reviewing consolidated financial statements and MD&A.
- Understanding of GST/HST/PST requirements; exposure to transfer pricing is an asset.
