Accounts Payable Specialist

About the role

Black & McDonald Limited’s Accounting and Finance team is expanding and seeks a committed, collaborative Accounts Payable Specialist in Markham, Ontario. You will be responsible for timely and accurate posting and payment of high‑volume invoices, as well as general clerical duties such as material transfers and filing.

Key responsibilities

• Enter and post high‑volume invoices (PO, subcontract, non‑PO) ensuring 2‑ and 3‑way matches.
• Obtain approvals, process weekly disbursements (cheques, EFT, online payments) and apply discounts.
• Complete detailed cost coding of vendor invoices in Excel.
• Respond to internal and external inquiries within 48 hours.
• Maintain vendor accounts, reconcile statements and manage AP aging (45+ days).
• Perform monthly general ledger and sub‑ledger reconciliations.
• Assist with year‑end accruals, audits and other administrative duties.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in an accounting‑related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in accounts payable.
• Strong communication, accountability, problem‑solving and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with JD Edwards or an Oracle‑based ERP system (asset).
• Ability to handle high invoice volumes (≈100 invoices/day) and meet deadlines.

What we offer

• Annual salary range of $50,000 – $63,000 CAD, based on experience and competencies.
