Accountant II

About the role

The Accountant II will support Liberty Utilities by ensuring accurate recording, analysis and reporting of financial information. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the role plays a key part in month‑end and year‑end close, regulatory reporting and audit support while collaborating with operations, procurement and finance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries according to closing schedules.
• Execute month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close activities.
• Prepare and analyse monthly financial reports and supporting schedules.
• Investigate financial variances and unusual account activity.
• Support financial statement preparation and related disclosures.
• Perform balance‑sheet and general‑ledger reconciliations.
• Maintain documentation to support accounting positions and results.
• Provide accounting guidance to operational and corporate departments.
• Assist business partners with expense coding and accounting treatment questions.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and ad‑hoc financial analysis.
• Prepare audit schedules, coordinate audit responses and implement recommendations.
• Identify process‑improvement opportunities and support automation initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset to investigate variances and resolve accounting issues.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
• Attention to detail and commitment to compliance with US GAAP and SOX.
