Academic Peer Coach at Rattler Success Center

About the role

The Academic Peer Coach supports first‑year students at St Mary’s University by helping them navigate college life and academic resources. Working within the Rattler Success Center, you will act as a learning mentor, guiding students toward effective study habits and connecting them with tutoring services when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Assist first‑year students in adjusting to college life and academic expectations.
• Identify and refer students to appropriate campus resources, including financial aid and counseling.
• Review course portals such as Gateway and Canvas with students, offering guidance on time‑management, note‑taking, and test‑taking strategies.
• Develop and present workshops on academic skills and study techniques.
• Support social‑media content creation and contribute to the video library with instructional tips.
• Monitor Early Alert campaigns, contact at‑risk students, and report concerns to the Director.

Required profile

• Current student with a minimum 3.5 GPA, enrolled at least half‑time.
• Texas resident classified by the university, registered with Selective Service (or exempt).
• Demonstrated financial need and good academic and conduct standing.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Not receiving an athletic scholarship or enrolled in a religious ordination program.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Canvas learning management system.
• Experience using the Rattler Navigate student‑tracking platform.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $12.
• Flexible schedule of approximately 10 hours per week, Monday‑Friday.
