Academic Associate – Policy

About the role

The Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy (CMTD) at McGill University seeks an Academic Associate – Policy to lead its policy stream. You will translate cutting‑edge research into actionable policy recommendations that shape digital governance in Canada and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the strategic direction of CMTD’s policy agenda.
• Produce evidence‑based policy briefs, reports, and recommendations on topics such as platform regulation, AI governance, and climate disinformation.
• Engage with government officials, regulatory bodies, and democratic institutions to advance policy proposals.
• Collaborate with the research team to integrate empirical findings from the Media Ecosystem Observatory into policy work.
• Represent CMTD in public forums, media appearances, and stakeholder workshops.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in public policy, political science, media studies, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in policy analysis, development, or advocacy, preferably in digital or technology domains.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex research to non‑technical audiences.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
