Academic Advisor – Vantage College & Faculty of Science

About the role

The Academic Advisor for Vantage College and the Faculty of Science develops, delivers, and evaluates academic advising services that support the success, personal development, and retention of both international and domestic undergraduate students. The role spans advising for Vantage College students and for over 9,500 students across more than 50 Science programmes, working from both the Vantage College and Science Information Centre locations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement advising programs, recruitment and retention activities, and special projects that align with Vantage College and Faculty of Science goals.
• Provide comprehensive academic guidance, including degree planning, promotion, at‑risk evaluation, and graduation assessments.
• Support students with complex issues such as immigration status, study permits, co‑op placements, health, wellbeing, housing and funding, coordinating with campus partners.
• Lead promotion and progression evaluation processes and drive technological initiatives to enhance advising services.
• Participate in cross‑campus committees, contribute to policy development, and collaborate with faculty, student services and external units.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable autonomy in interpreting and applying academic policies.
• Experience advising undergraduate students, including international cohorts, and managing complex student cases.
• Strong knowledge of Science degree requirements, registration processes, and student record systems.
• Excellent judgment for evaluating academic concessions, accommodations, and policy exceptions.
