3rd Class Marine Engineer – Full-time

About the role

Northumberland Ferries Limited is seeking a qualified 3rd Class Marine Engineer to join its crew on the Wood Islands‑Caribou ferry route. This full‑time, year‑round position involves active sailing from May to December and a four‑month overhaul period during the off‑season.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, inspections and overhauls of vessel machinery as directed by the Second Engineer or Chief Engineer.
• Stand watch in the Engine Control Room or Engine Room according to the watch schedule.
• Maintain and update the company’s planned maintenance system.
• Ensure compliance with pollution regulations and keep accurate logbooks, oil record books and spares inventories.
• Supervise and delegate tasks to Oilers on watch.
• Apply knowledge of the Muster List, Vessel Emergency Plan and Safety Management System (SMS) training manual.

Required profile

• Valid Certificate of Competency as a 3rd Class Engineer.
• Valid Seafarers Medical Certificate and any other certificates required to maintain the CoC.
• Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a proven record of safe operations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with passenger services is an asset.
