10-Month Limited Term Assistant Professor in Human Geography

About the role

Nipissing University’s Department of Biology, Chemistry and Geography seeks an Assistant Professor for a 10‑month limited‑term appointment starting August 1, 2026. The position focuses on Human Geography, including cultural, social, and environmental dimensions, and requires on‑campus teaching in North Bay, Ontario.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver six undergraduate courses per year, including core and elective options in cultural geography, environment and society, and related topics.
• Develop and update course materials, assessments, and learning activities.
• Contribute to departmental service, curriculum development, and student advising.
• Maintain an active research agenda in human geography, with a preference for environmental and Indigenous perspectives.

Required profile

• Completed PhD in Geography or a closely related discipline (or near completion).
• Demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching.
• Specialization in human geography, preferably with an environmental focus.
• Active research portfolio in human geography is an asset.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of human geography theories and methods.
• Experience designing and delivering university‑level courses.
• Ability to integrate environmental dimensions into social geographic inquiry.
