Zooarchaeology Research Assistant

About the role

The Department of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia seeks three Zooarchaeology Research Assistants to support the Multispecies Archaeology Research Group. Working under the direction of Dr. Aleksa Alaica, you will manage the zooarchaeology collection, coordinate research activities, and ensure proper handling of valuable archaeological specimens.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inventory, care, and anatomical assessments of zooarchaeological specimens.
• Maintain laboratory supplies and record data according to standard operating procedures.
• Schedule appointments and coordinate meetings with research team members, volunteers, and visiting scholars.
• Prepare forms, photocopy documentation, and assist with collection assessments.
• Adhere to ethical guidelines for handling culturally significant samples.

Required profile

• High school diploma with at least one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and work collaboratively.
• Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain meticulous records.
