Workshop Support Assistant

About the role

The BC Dental Study Club runs hands-on continuing education courses for dentists from its downtown Vancouver teaching space. It is looking for a Workshop Support Assistant to join the events team on course weekends, working alongside the event lead to keep everything running smoothly for participants and instructors, from the first cup of coffee to the final reset. No dental experience is needed; training is provided.

Key responsibilities

• Run the kitchen through the day: brew coffee, prepare milk and hot water, plate food, stock the fridge and keep dishes moving
• Set up breakfast and snacks before participants arrive and keep food, drinks and supplies stocked
• Welcome participants at registration and handle coat checks
• Control the room via an iPad: lights, shades and music for lectures and breaks
• Keep instructors supplied with water and coffee
• Distribute and collect hands-on kits and materials, and reset stations between sessions
• Keep the room tidy by clearing dishes, cups and garbage
• Walk participants to and from lunch at a nearby restaurant
• Clean up, restock the kitchen and reset the room at the end of each day

Required profile

• Experience in hotels, banquets, catering, events, or a busy café or restaurant
• Reliable and on time for a 7:30 AM start
• Anticipates what needs doing and does it before being asked
• Warm and polished with professionals, comfortable staying in the background during lectures
• Able to run a busy kitchen and stay on your feet all day, including lifting boxes and supplies
• A valid passport is an asset for occasional travel with the team to courses in the US and Canada (travel costs covered)

What we offer

• Pay of $28 to $30 per hour depending on experience
• Saturdays and Sundays, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with a 30-minute unpaid meal break
• About 35 weekend days in 2027, mostly in spring and fall; Friday shifts are optional
• Full-year dates shared in advance, with occasional travel opportunities
