Track Construction Manager – Railway Infrastructure

About the role

The Track Construction Manager leads the planning, execution and delivery of trackworks across new and operational railway infrastructure. This senior role ensures that complex track renewal, special trackwork and associated earthworks are completed safely, on time and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Define construction methodologies and detailed method statements for trackworks execution.
• Lead field operations across multiple work fronts, coordinating labour, equipment and subcontractors.
• Plan and manage daily and long‑term construction activities aligned with project schedules and milestones.
• Drive productivity while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and performance.
• Oversee strategic planning and performance management of railway equipment and heavy construction plant.
• Plan, safely load and deploy engineering trains and rail‑mounted equipment (hi‑rail excavators, track‑laying systems, OTMs, tamping machines, regulators).
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with engineering, planning and project teams to align design and execution.
• Support internal departments (Planning, Cost Control, Estimating, Scheduling, Technical Office, HSE, QA/QC) and procurement of materials, equipment and subcontractors.
• Oversee quality control, continuous improvement initiatives and mentor site teams.
• Act as primary interface with the client.

Required profile

• 10‑15 years of railway construction experience on the contractor side.
• Minimum 6 years in heavy rail/ballasted track construction, including brownfield and operational environments.
• Proven experience delivering track renewals and special trackwork.
• Strong knowledge of end‑to‑end track construction processes and ability to interpret drawings, specifications and survey data.
• Hands‑on experience with hi‑rail equipment, tampers, regulators and track machines.
• Demonstrated safety leadership in high‑risk environments.
• Excellent communication skills in English and ability to manage teams under pressure.
• Consultancy and design experience in large rail programs or consortium environments.
