Test Technician – QC Switchgear

About the role

IEM Canada is seeking a Test Technician to support functional testing of switchgear products and components. You will work in a shop environment, ensuring safe and accurate testing while maintaining thorough documentation for each project.

Key responsibilities

• Position and connect equipment for testing, perform wire checks and visual inspections.
• Assist senior Test Technicians with checkout, functional, Hi‑Pot, Ductor, and continuity testing under supervision.
• Complete required documentation, post results in job folders, and follow document‑control procedures.
• Set up safety barriers, hazard signs, PPE, and staging for energized testing.
• Identify and explain the use of common testing equipment and demonstrate proper PPE donning.
• Assist in schematic highlighting, record non‑conformances, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (additional education a plus).
• Minimum 1 year of control wiring experience.
• Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, bend, squat, and work on ladders.
• Comfort with long periods of close visual work on drawings and small fonts.
