Temporary Part-Time Registered Nurse – Birthing Unit

About the role

The Birthing Unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre seeks a Temporary Part‑Time Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive maternal and newborn care during the post‑partum period, as well as support women and families during labour and delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments, interventions, education, advocacy and discharge planning.
• Provide bereavement counselling when required.
• Alternate shifts with another skilled Birthing Unit nurse and deliver care to women in labour.
• Scrub and circulate for caesarean sections and perform vaginal examinations.
• Collaborate with the interprofessional team to ensure family‑centred, patient‑focused care.

Required profile

• Current CNO registration in good standing.
• Recent obstetric RN experience in a tertiary care setting.
• Recent maternal and newborn experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and teamwork abilities.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and person‑centred care.
• Breastfeeding skills course certificate, CPR and NRP certifications.

Required skills

• Fetal monitoring.
• Caesarean section scrubbing and circulating.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) proficiency.
• CPR certification.
• Breastfeeding support techniques.
