Structural Mechanical Lead Engineer – Rail Carbody

About the role

Alstom is seeking a Structural Mechanical Lead Engineer to drive the design and development of carbody structures for major rail projects. You will work in a collaborative engineering environment, guiding a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, certified solutions that meet project timelines and performance targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full requirements lifecycle from analysis through validation and certification.
• Develop and deliver carbody structure (CBS) design solutions aligned with project specifications.
• Prepare and manage technical documentation for carbody shell and crash requirements.
• Coordinate with FEA, crash, and weight engineering teams to ensure design integrity.
• Oversee the design team, support problem‑solving and issue resolution.
• Ensure consistency and accuracy across designs, simulations, and deliverables.
• Review and validate deliverables for quality and compliance.
• Support manufacturing, sourcing, and industrialisation during project execution.
• Monitor performance (quality, cost, delivery) and escalate risks with mitigation plans.
• Contribute to system architecture and certification/validation plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree is an asset).
• Member of the OIQ.
• 8+ years of experience in mechanical design of complex assemblies, preferably in the transport industry.
• Strong knowledge of welded structures and geometric tolerancing.
• Experience working in or with manufacturing environments.
• Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills in a project setting.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken.
