Structural Engineer – Bridges & Structures

About the role

Wood Rodgers is seeking a qualified Engineer to join its Structures/Bridges Department. The role involves designing bridges and other transportation‑related structures, preparing studies, estimates, and reports, and supporting project delivery from concept through construction.

Key responsibilities

• Perform bridge and structural design tasks under senior engineer guidance.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, quantities, and cost estimates.
• Develop structural analysis models and interpret results for design decisions.
• Support preliminary layouts, planning studies, basis of design documentation, and structure type selection reports.
• Assist in preparing plans, specifications, and engineer’s estimates.
• Coordinate drawings and plan development with drafting staff and other disciplines.
• Participate in field reviews and site inspections for existing and proposed structures.
• Review shop drawings, contractor submittals, and other construction documentation.
• Provide technical input for reports, proposals, and project documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• California Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing.
• 3–8 years of relevant bridge, structural, or transportation engineering experience, including at least 2 years of bridge or structural design.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative, proactive problem‑solving approach.

Required skills

• Experience with bridge and structural design software such as CSiBridge, XTRACT, Viathor, PGSuper, LPILE, CTAbut.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Mathcad, and AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, California Amendments, Caltrans Seismic Design Criteria, and related Caltrans bridge design guidance.
• Ability to interpret geotechnical, hydraulic, and other technical support data.
